My Worst Video Ever.

I did a video playing the latest FNAF (4).

Rating wise, it’s probably one of my worst videos ever:

image

Which is totally fine, that’s not why I’m writing this… the point is: fans were upset over the video and I just wanted to explain a few things around it.

The main reason people were upset is because I wasn’t scared while playing it. A lot of people know me on YouTube as being easily scared. So of course people want to see me play the game to see me get scared.

That’s not what they got, so they dislike the video - Fair enough.

Some fans even damn right demanded that I “faked reactions” for the sake of entertainment.

image

Fake reactions? It’s what fans wanted right? So why don’t I just do that? I’ll get more views, fans will be happy, everyone is happy? YAY, right?

I don’t know… I don’t want to?

I explained in the video that the reason I don’t find it scary is because after you played the first 3 games. You learn the mechanics, you understand how the game works, you know exactly what to expect, there’s no unknown or surprises anymore. Fear of the unknown if the biggest key to horror and that’s gone. What’s left?

A dull game that people are begging me to play:

I could go on, but you get the point…

Many also asked: “WELL IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE GAME, WHY DO YOU PLAY IT?”

How will I know if I like it or not if I don’t play it? Also: If I don’t play it, fans will get upset (you’ve seen the demand for it).

I actually liked the first 2 games!  But apparently this game is the holy grail of gaming and any criticism to it will result to all of this.

Again, I could go more in depth about how this game objectively don’t hold up to the other 3 titles, but these were my main points and I’m going on for too long already!

To be honest, I’m kinda proud of myself for not bullshitting myself through the game for fan pleasing and views. *Pats myself on the back*. Not sure if 2012 PDP would’ve done the same…

Now, here’s the video, some people enjoyed it at least. :-)

tl;dr: Don’t hate the playa hate the gaem

Can I also just say that I’m a fan of Scotts work and I don’t hate FNAF. It’s just the insane fan craze over the games that puts me on the spot and I have to respond this way.

Nintendo “sharing” YouTube Ad Revenue.

Nintendo recently started implementing so that half the ad revenue generated from YouTube videos featuring their titles, would go to them. Link

First off all, they have every right to do this and any other developer / publisher have as well. There’d be no “let’s play” without the game to play. And we (YouTubers) are humble to this fact.

But what they are missing out on completely is the free exposure and publicity that they get from YouTube / YouTubers. What better way to sell / market a game, than from watching someone else (that you like) playing it and enjoying themselves?

This is why a tiny one man indie game like Minecraft could grow into a 2.5 billion dollar deal. That’s 2.5 billion… Made possible, largely because of the exposure it got from YouTube!

If I played a Nintendo game on my channel. Most likely most of the views / ad revenue would come from the fact that my viewers are subscribed to me. Not necessarily because they want to watch a Nintendo game in particular.

Yes, there are exceptions of YouTube channels that uploads day 1 release of a game, 50 parts just to milk views off YouTube. That’s more of a problem for YouTube than Nintendo.

I also think this is a slap in the face to the YouTube channels that does focus on Nintendo game exclusively. The people who have helped and showed passion for Nintendo’s community are the ones left in the dirt the most.

And finally, when there’s just so many games out there to play. Nintendo games just went to the bottom of that list. Even if more publishers starts implementing this idea of sharing revenue. Then fine, there’s always going to be plenty of games out there, ready to become the next “Mienkraft” - Sounds cheesy, but it’s true.

So, you should reconsider this decision Nintendo.  (◕‿◕✿)

Added note: I’ll still play Nintendo games that I want to play on my channel as usual. I’m lucky to be in a situation where losing ad revenue on a few videos wont matter. However, many people on YouTube are not in that situation.

Everyone loses in this scenario that Nintendo has created, that’s why I’m against it.

So this video is a really good and interesting to watch even if you’re a bro or non bro **

But there’s this one part at 8:50 that just isn’t correct. I wasn’t really bothered by it, since this is the “Game Theorist” not “Game Facts”. But I’ve seen more and more taking this to heart as fact. Even saying it’s the only reason my channel grew. - I wouldn’t mind people believing whatever about how my channel grew. But now I see people saying that I’m exploiting the system on YouTube?

So I felt like it was time to set this straight really quick:

So basically what Matthew speculated was that; since I’ve moved so much during my YouTube “thing?” (From Sweden to Italy to UK). I’ve been promoted by YouTube locally in all these countries. - and managed to get an unfair advantage by doing so through extra views.

This would actually make a lot of sense, but it just isn’t true. I’ve never been on the UK frontpage and I’ve never been on the Italy frontpage. YouTube only puts me on the frontpage of Sweden, since my account is created with Sweden as my nationality. Regardless of where I move this never changes. This goes for everyone on YouTube.

So here’s an example of comments I see from time to time:

I went to Japan last week which was the first week holiday I’ve taken in 2½ years. I also make 5-15 minute videos, because that’s what I think is a good time for a YouTube video, no other reason. 99% of YouTubers upload with this length as well by the way.

Tl:Dr this entire post is pointless, but I wanted to get that out.

Money changes people, but not everyone =.=

I’m really not a fan of giving updates like these. But this time it seems necessary:

As you may have heard. Maker Studios, (the network I’m partnered with) was recently bought up by Disney. This is big news for many people. And since I’m their biggest partner; media use my face as the front of many articles regarding this.

This gives the impression that I’m “selling out” to Disney. When in fact I had nothing to do with this deal. I’m just a partner to Maker, just like many other YouTube channels, not their CEO! :P

Networks don’t have creative control over their partners (as far as I’m concerned) and neither will in this case Disney.

So just to be 100% clear: nothing in my videos is going to change because of this!

You can be sure that I will always make the videos the way I want to make them. The freedom that YouTube offers is what makes it so beautiful, and that is not something I would sell away.
Ok, maybe if I would get free rides on Disneyland.

JOKING!

If you actually read this far; I would like to ask of you to pass this message along to people who have been misinformed. - Because unfortunately it seems to be the case for many at the moment.
